The Other Side of Winter

My cat sits waiting
In the pale winter sun,
For the other side of winter
When this season’s done.

Not much warmth
In the patch of sun today.
No tall grass outside
For kitty’s fun and play.

There are two sides to winter,
Going in and coming out.
One is sad, one is hopeful,
You know which one, no doubt.

We both sit waiting
In the pale winter sun,
For the other side of winter
When this season’s done.

Our black and white cat Whiskers

Our cat Whiskers, rescued from the roadside April 24, 1987. Whiskers died April 27, 2002. In the 15 years he was with us, he went through all of his "nine lives", having survived being hit by a car, becoming locked in a neighbor's garage for several days, and finally, leukemia. He bravely fought off the disease to live on another two years. He was a tough 'ole alley cat who refused to be an inside cat.
