Dave's Fav Bread recipe
(use dough setting) Use for bread or dinner rolls
Jewish Challah
- 1 cup water
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 3 tablespoons oil or butter
- 3 tablespoons sugar
- 1 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 3 3/4 cup white flour
- 1 teaspoon yeast
Glaze (if desired) (or just brush hot, baked bread
with butter)
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tablespoon water
- Measure first 7 ingredients into baking pan.
- Insert pan into bread machine, select "Dough"
setting & start
- When cycle is complete, remove dough from
machine to a lightly floured surface. *Divide dough into 6 equal portions.
Roll with palm of hand into long smooth strips. The pieces should be thicker
in the middle and gradually taper towards the ends. Braid the 6 dough strips
(problem---they don't show you how). Place on lightly greased baking sheet.
Cover and let rise 30 minutes or until double in volume.
- (Glaze--optional) Beat egg yolk with one
tablespoon of water and brush over bread.
- Bake at 350º for 30 to 35 minutes.
*NOTE---instead you may choose to make two regular
loaves or dinner rolls. For dinner rolls (clover-leaf style, roll out three
balls for each roll, about 23mm each, if you are making them with two, roll them
a bit larger, about 28mm (about an inch)
