Looking across the vast desert. This is
from a group of pictures taken by my father along Rice Road, north of
Midland, CA. We truly lived in "the middle of nowhere".
Even looking at these pictures today "stretches my eyes"
like a visual freedom, unbounded by telephone poles, trees, houses and
other buildings. For years I felt claustrophobic in the city.
Being able to see for such great distances across such a
mysterious land did wonders for my young imagination. In my daydreams I
pretended to ride Arabian horses across the great expanse.
